The Irrkerlantye capacity building model offers a process for empowerment of Arrernte people by offering opportunities for Eastern & Central Arrernte people to bring tangible outcomes to the hopes and aspirations they have for their families.
The Irrkerlantye Community Development Centre focuses programs and related activities around positive and sustainable outcomes.
The Centre advocates an intergenerational approach for family groups and runs programs that cater for family members of all ages, from babies to the elderly. The community development process centres around families participating and facilitating a strategic planning process for themselves including goal setting, action planning and regular review. These strategic plans determine programs that run in key areas and program links with other service agencies.
Through this process the community development coordinator and community development workers organise & engage individual families in regular strategic planning meetings. These meetings often are often located in traditional country settings. Strategic planning meetings provide opportunities for families to review, identify & document

- long & short term goals,
- blockages & issues
- solutions to problems
- action plans
all of which determine programs & processes to be implemented in key areas.
