This program is currently funded by Family & Community Services program 'Stronger Families and Communities' program.

Ways of achieving community development through capacity building is to;

  • provide support to families and individuals
  • assist with accessing resources
  • assist with developing and implementing community plans
  • assist with developing individual & community training plans
  • providing an advocacy service

FACS Objectives: There are three identified objectives for the two year term of this funded project. They are:

Objective 1: To ensure that families have the necessary support to assist them to acheive their action plans.

Project Aim: Build opportunities and skills for economic self reliance in families and communities.

Objective 2: To develop linkages with key family, youth and children's services and other related agencies to support family capacity to deal more effectively with unemployment, substance misuse, violence and criminal behaviour and family breakdown.

Project Aim: Build partnerships between local services strenghtening support to families and communities, so they deliver better services and meet unmet needs.

Objective 3: To facilitate the involvement of individuals and extended families in the identification of issues impacting on their lives and the development of strategies that will address these issues.

Project Aim: Build opportunities and skills for economic self reliance in families and communities.

Through this process a need to develop a regional model of community development for the Arrernte member families of Ngkarte Mikwekenhe has arisen.

A Regional Development Plan is being developed where all stakeholders, member Arrernte outstations and Irrkerlantye Centre members develop shared responsibility agreements with service providers and whole of government for effecient service provision.
